CM Maryam advocates integration of AI for traffic rules enforcement

AI traffic management system Lahore Pakistan

LAHORE: In a bid to streamline and improve traffic flow in Lahore, the Chief Minister (CM) of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz, emphasised the utilisation of artificial intelligence (AI) technology for effective enforcement of traffic rules during a recent meeting.

Chairing the session focused on traffic management, CM Maryam directed immediate actions to address key aspects of traffic control.

The Chief Minister instructed the prompt removal of temporary encroachments at 31 locations, comprehensive road engineering and design at 82 sites, and the repair and rehabilitation of roads at 28 locations within the city.

These measures aim to enhance the overall traffic infrastructure and ensure a smoother flow of vehicles.

Notably, CM Maryam underscored the need for proactive measures to prevent violations of one-way traffic. To achieve this, she directed the installation of tyre killers at 88 strategic locations across the city.

Additionally, the CM proposed the installation of digital screens to display warning messages during traffic jams, enhancing communication and awareness among commuters.

In a humane approach, CM Maryam instructed officials not to remove carts belonging to the economically disadvantaged from the roads. Instead, a designated line will be drawn to accommodate these carts while maintaining traffic order.

Prior to these directives, Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Amara Azhar briefed the CM on the introduction of an e-challan service.

This initiative, utilising Safe City cameras, aims to address non-compliance issues such as not wearing helmets on motorcycles and seatbelts in vehicles.

The integration of technology in traffic enforcement reflects a forward-looking strategy to ensure road safety and efficiency in the region.
