AJK announces two weekly holidays for govt, private colleges

MUZAFFARABAD: The Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Higher Education Department has introduced a five-day working week for all government and private colleges across the region, with Saturdays and Sundays declared weekly holidays.

According to an official notification issued by the AJK Higher Education Department, the new schedule will take effect immediately, with colleges operating from Monday to Friday.

The notification applies to all public and private colleges under the administrative control of the AJK Higher Education Department.

College administrations have been directed to ensure implementation of the new working-week schedule, under which classes and other routine activities will continue from Monday to Friday, while Saturday and Sunday will be observed as weekly holidays.

The decision brings the weekly schedule of AJK colleges in line with the five-day working week followed by educational institutions in several other parts of the country.

In Punjab, Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, public educational institutions generally observe a five-day working week, with Saturday and Sunday as weekly holidays. Balochistan also observes two weekly holidays at educational institutions.

The AJK decision, however, specifically covers both government and private colleges under the administrative control of the Higher Education Department.
