WEB DESK: The Punjab Caretaker Chief Minister (CM), Mohsin Naqvi, has officially inaugurated the Akbar Chowk Flyover, marking the completion of the fourth ‘mega project’ by the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) in November in Lahore.
Originally planned to take ten months, the Akbar Chowk Flyover was completed by LDA’s Engineering Wing in just seven months.
The completion of the flyover project is expected to alleviate traffic congestion on one of Lahore’s busiest roads, benefiting residents in areas such as Johar Town, Wapda Town, Valencia, LDA, PIA Housing Society, and Thokar, as well as those commuting through Akbar Chowk Flyover.
During the inauguration of the Maulana Muhammad Ali Johar Flyover Project (Akbar Chowk), CM Naqvi commended LDA DG Muhammad Ali Randhawa and Chief Engineer LDA Israr Saeed for completing the project ahead of schedule, despite challenges like heavy rains. The 2.2-kilometre flyover, along with 10 protected U-turns, has been opened for all kind of traffic.
The new flyover has enhanced the aesthetics of the massive bridge, and the Akbar Chowk Flyover in Lahore is garnering widespread appreciation on social media. Many users are sharing videos and pictures, praising its lighting and road infrastructure.

CM Naqvi emphasised that the two-sided Akbar Chowk flyover is now the city’s longest, serving various residential areas. With this project’s completion, a signal-free corridor has been established between Multan Road and Ferozpur Road. Previous projects, such as the Bedian Underpass, Shahdara flyovers, and Cavalry Underpass, were also completed promptly and opened for traffic.
Residents of Defence Housing Authority (DHA) Phase 9 Town, Askari 11 Lahore, DHA Phase 6, DHA Phase 5, Pace Woodlands, and other societies in proximity to Bedian Road, who experienced disturbances and increased traffic during earlier construction, are now enjoying improved conditions.
CM Punjab expressed confidence that the Akbar Chowk flyover will resolve the long-standing traffic problems along College Road and PECO Road. Plans for addressing concerns on College Road are set to commence shortly.
