KARACHI: Dengue cases in Sindh continue to climb sharply, with 260 new infections reported in the past 24 hours, according to the latest daily update issued by the Director General Health Sindh.
The report revealed that 71 patients were admitted to hospitals across the province during this period, 43 in government hospitals and 34 in private facilities.
Karachi accounted for the highest admissions, with 25 new patients entering government hospitals, while Hyderabad recorded nine new admissions.
Health officials noted some positive developments as well: 42 patients were discharged from government hospitals after recovery, while 45 recovered in private hospitals. No dengue-related deaths were reported in the last 24 hours.
A total of 3,328 tests were conducted across government and private laboratories, of which 260 returned positive. Karachi labs reported 147 cases, while 113 were detected in Hyderabad.
DG Health Sindh urged residents to maintain clean surroundings, eliminate standing water, and strictly follow dengue prevention measures to curb the rising spread.
Earlier this month, the Sindh government reported four deaths related to dengue virus. According to the Sindh Health Department, the total death toll from dengue this year has risen to 25.
PROTECT YOURSELF FROM MOSQUITO BITES
Dengue can be avoided by protecting yourself from mosquito bites. Use mosquito repellents , wear long sleeves and pants, and stay indoors, especially during sunrise and sunset times. If you’re outdoors, especially between dawn and dusk when dengue-carrying mosquitoes are most active, keep exposed skin to a minimum. Bed nets and permethrin-treated clothing offer added protection.
You can also limit dengue risk by reducing mosquito breeding spots around your home. Empty and scrub anything that collects water at least once a week, keep storage containers tightly covered, and repair any damaged window or door screens. Removing standing water and blocking mosquito entry points are key to stopping mosquitoes before they spread.
