RAWALPINDI: The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has blocked the national identity card and passport of former prime minister Imran Khan’s sister, Aleema Khan, on court orders.
The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has also frozen her bank accounts, in compliance with the same directive.
When Anti-Terrorism Court Judge Amjad Ali Shah took up the case of a riot, vandalism and arson registered against her at the Sadiqabad Police Station, the NADRA chairman submitted a report confirming the blocking of Aleema Khan’s CNIC and passport.
Meanwhile, a report submitted to the court by the SBP governor said that a circular had been issued to all banks across the country to freeze Aleema Khan’s accounts, after which all banks would implement the freeze.
The court was told that the orders to block her CNIC and passport and freeze her accounts had been fully implemented.
The hearing of the Sadiqabad riot case was then adjourned till November 3, with the court summoning all five witnesses.
The court also issued non-bailable arrest warrants for Aleema Khan for the seventh time. Witness statements could not be recorded today — although the witnesses were present in court but proceedings could not continue due to Aleema Khan’s absence.
Of the 10 accused in the case, one has been declared a proclaimed offender, five have been granted permanent exemption from appearance, while two were absent.
It may be recalled that the Anti-Terrorism Court had earlier issued Aleema Khan’s arrest warrants for the sixth time, ordering that she be taken into custody and produced before the court.
Earlier, Saddar Baironi police had registered a case against Aleema Khan, PTI lawyer Naeem Panjotha and others after PTI workers attacked and manhandled a journalist outside Adiala jail.
The incident occurred when Aleema Khan and other PTI leaders began a media talk outside the Adial jail, where former prime minister Imran Khan has been incarcerated after convictions in a slew of cases, including the state secrets, the Toshakhana and the Al-Qadir Trust cases.
During the media talk, journalist Tayyab Baloch asked a question regarding Aleema Khan’s alleged properties in the United States, reportedly acquired through Shaukat Khanum Hospital funds.
PTI workers attacked Baloch after he posed the question.
