All motorways to reopen from tomorrow after PTI postpones Islamabad march

All motorways will be reopened for traffic at 6am tomorrow after Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) postponed its planned September 27 march to Islamabad, according to the National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP).

The NHMP spokesperson said all motorways, including M-1, M-14 and E-35, would be restored for traffic from 6am tomorrow.

Citizens will be able to travel on M-1 Peshawar Motorway, M-14 Islamabad-Dera Ismail Khan Motorway and E-35 Hazara Motorway after the reopening.

PTI on Friday unanimously decided to postpone its September 27 Islamabad march, which had been announced a month earlier. The party will now leave from Peshawar for Islamabad on October 4.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi said at a news conference on Friday that PTI wanted to keep its protest peaceful and political, while alleging that the government was seeking to create conditions similar to those surrounding the May 9 events and register cases against party workers.

The M-1, M-14, E-35 and other major routes are expected to see heightened security arrangements as the new protest date approaches, sources said.

Earlier, M-1, M-14, Hazara Motorway and parts of the GT Road were closed late on September 23 amid security concerns and the prevailing law and order situation.
