Allocation of SIC seats to other parties violation of constitution: Senator Ali Zafar

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Senator and legal expert Ali Zafar has said that the allocation of their seats to other parties will be a violation of the constitution.

After thee Election Commission of Pakistan rejected a plea of the Sunni Ittehad Council seeking allocation of reserved seats for the party, Senator Ali Zafar also demanded the resignation of all members of the ECP, declaring the poll body’s decision against the constitution.

Speaking in the Senate, Barrister Ali Zafar said that they reject the ECP’s decision of not giving reserved seats to the Sunni Ittehad Council and according to the constitution, the SIC should get reserved seats.

He said that the Sunni Ittehad Council has 23 reserved seats and it will be a violation of the constitution to give their seats to any other party.

He said that the presidential and Senate elections could not take place until the decision on the reserved seats was taken.

The ECP rejected the request of the Sunni Ittehad Council for reserved seats, deciding that the Sunni Ittehad Council was not eligible for the quota of reserved seats for women and minorities.

After the decision of the ECP, the reserved seats will go to the other parties.
