Amazon AWS struggles to recover as outage hits Snapchat, apps, sites

Snapchat Down

ISLAMABAD: Multimedia photo-video social media platform Snapchat faced an outage on October 20, with users across the globe questioning the reason behind its malfunction. Here is the reason.

According to experts, the actual cause behind the Snapchat issue today was linked to Amazon Web Services (AWS). This affected global users as well as Snapchat users in Pakistan.

Globally, a single outage tracker recorded over 22,000 reports for Snapchat at its peak, while 53 per cent of affected users in Pakistan reported having limited or no access to the application.

However, AWS engineers are reported to be actively involved in repairing and mitigating the issue, with problems expected to be addressed within 24 hours for users in Pakistan, according to initial reports.

Snapchat, which has been popular among users worldwide for over a decade and gained massive popularity in Pakistan around 2014, has left its Pakistani fans frustrated after introducing a new paid storage requirement.
