Amy Poehler has won a Golden Globe for her podcast Good Hang With Amy Poehler, but it is not just the award that has people talking. It is the way she got there.
The comedian and actor took home the award in the Globes’ newly introduced podcast category, making history in the process. While Poehler is no stranger to accolades, having previously won for Parks and Recreation and earned multiple Emmy nominations, this win feels different.
It is not about star power. It is not about viral clips. And it is not about controversy.
It is about how she hosts.
Unlike many celebrity-led podcasts, Poehler does not try to dominate the conversation. She does not compete with her guests. She does not interrupt to prove she is the funniest person in the room. Instead, she listens.
That choice has quietly set her apart in a crowded podcast landscape where performance often outweighs presence.
Launched less than a year ago, Good Hang has already climbed into the top 50 podcasts in the United States. The appeal is not built on shocking confessions or clickbait moments, but on something rarer: emotional safety.
Poehler asks simple questions and lets silences breathe. She gives her guests space to talk without steering the spotlight back to herself. It is a style that feels warm, unforced and unexpectedly intimate.
In recent episodes, she has gently guided guests through deeply personal moments, including Ariana Grande opening up about the death of her grandmother and Aubrey Plaza speaking about grief following the loss of her husband. Rather than skirting around difficult subjects, Poehler approaches them with curiosity instead of spectacle.
Her background in improvisation plays a key role. Poehler treats her guests less like celebrities and more like scene partners, meeting them where they are rather than trying to outshine them.
That approach has even brought out a playful side in guests not usually known for it, including Gwyneth Paltrow, who appeared noticeably relaxed and silly during a recent episode.
Other major podcasts were also nominated in the new category, including Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard, Call Her Daddy with Alex Cooper and The Mel Robbins Podcast. All are hugely popular. But Poehler’s style appears to have resonated differently.
In an industry often driven by ego, she has built something around curiosity.
And now, she has a Golden Globe to show for it.
