WEB DESK: Former heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua defeated YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul with a sixth-round stoppage in their heavyweight bout held in Miami on Saturday night.
The fight had generated intense debate in the build-up, with critics questioning its safety due to the clear disparity in experience and size. Joshua entered the contest with a professional record of 28 wins and four losses, while Paul, despite his growing profile, came in far less seasoned at 12-1.
Contrary to widespread skepticism, Paul exceeded expectations, showing durability and composure as he withstood Joshua’s pressure for more than five rounds of the scheduled eight-round fight. His resistance finally ended in the sixth round, when Joshua broke through to secure the stoppage.
Speaking immediately after the bout in an interview conducted by Ariel Helwani, Joshua admitted he was not fully satisfied with his performance. “It wasn’t the best showing. I wanted to pin him down and hurt him, and it took me longer than I expected,” he said. Joshua praised Paul’s effort, adding that stepping into the ring against an elite fighter “takes a real man.”
With the win, Joshua used the moment to issue a direct challenge to Tyson Fury, urging his longtime rival to move from online talk to the ring. “If Tyson Fury is serious, he should fight me,” Joshua said. “Let’s see how serious he really is.”
