Apex full court approves updates to Supreme Court Rules, 2025

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan has announced that a full court meeting held in Islamabad unanimously approved the updated Supreme Court Rules 2025, marking a major step toward improving judicial efficiency and service delivery.

According to the official announcement, the rules were formulated after a complete review of both the Supreme Court Rules 1980 and the new 2025 draft. The review committee examined operational challenges within the existing framework and incorporated suggestions aimed at eliminating procedural difficulties.

The committee responsible for the review included Justice Shahid Waheed, Justice Irfan Saadat, Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan, and Justice Aqeel Abbasi. Each member of the committee was individually commended by the full court for their contributions.

The committee prepared the draft of the Supreme Court Rules 2025 under Rule 1 (4) order 1, and the updates were formally approved under Rule 5, Order 4. The Supreme Court said that the revised rules are designed to improve judicial performance, ensuring faster and more affordable justice for citizens. The updates are also expected to enhance overall service delivery across the judicial system.

Additionally, the full court meeting conferred the status of Senior Advocate of the Supreme Court upon Munir Paracha. The Supreme Court noted that the updated rules reflect a modernised approach to judicial administration and will help streamline court procedures nationwide.
