Leak reveals Apple’s chip strategy for upcoming devices

Apple new chips 2024

WEB DESK: In anticipation of the imminent release of new iPads and the highly anticipated next generation of iPhone models later this year, Apple enthusiasts are eager to uncover the powerhouse behind these cutting-edge devices.

A recent leak, disclosed by a reliable source on AppleInsider, sheds light on the chips that will fuel these gadgets.

The mysterious leaker, known for maintaining a low profile with protected posts and a limited following, has an impeccable track record, according to AppleInsider.

The publication, however, remains tight-lipped about the leaker’s username and the platform used for these revelations.

The initial leak hints at two upcoming variants of the entry-level iPad, both to be equipped with the A14 Bionic chip in 2020.

Interestingly, the 10th generation iPad already boasts the A14 Bionic, leading to speculation that these could be 10th-generation iPads with refreshed internal specs, possibly tailored for the education market.

Moving on to the 2024 iPad mini, the leak suggests a significant upgrade from the current A15 Bionic chip to the cutting-edge 3nm A17 Pro.

This advanced chip is currently powering the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, making them the exclusive devices utilising a 3nm chipset in Apple’s lineup.

Rumours also circulate about the iPad Air expanding its offerings with a 12.9-inch model, presenting consumers with two screen size options: 10.9 inches and 12.9 inches.

This strategy, reminiscent of the iPad Pro (2022), aims to attract buyers with varied preferences without overshadowing iPad Pro sales.

Diving into the technical details, the 2024 iPad Air is expected to run on Apple’s M2 chip, manufactured on TSMC’s second-generation 5nm process node.

A departure from the current M1 chip in the iPad Air, the M2 is already making waves as the powerhouse behind the iPad Pro (2022) line.

For iPad Pro enthusiasts, this year brings a groundbreaking addition: OLED panels.

While uncertainties remain regarding the screen size of the larger model, speculated to be either 12.9 inches or slightly increased to 13 inches, the leak reveals that the 2024 iPad Pro units will be powered by the highly anticipated 3nm M3 SoC, marking a significant technological leap for Apple’s top-tier tablets.
