Apple’s macOS 15 to feature redesigned menus, UI enhancements

macos 15 update

WEB DESK: Apple is gearing up for its much-anticipated macOS 15 update, poised to make a splash at the upcoming Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June.

According to a report from AppleInsider, the tech giant is set to shake up the user experience by revamping menus and application user interfaces (UIs).

The System Settings app, which received its last major overhaul with macOS Ventura, is primed for one of its most significant updates yet.

Under macOS Ventura’s banner, Apple rebranded the System Preferences app to System Settings, aligning its design with the familiar layout of the Settings app found on iPhones and iPads.

In macOS 15, System Settings is poised to undergo a reorganisation based on the principles of priority and overall importance. Notably, the Notifications and Sound categories will be shuffled lower down the list, with General settings ascending to a more prominent position directly beneath Network settings.

Moreover, Apple plans to consolidate related settings for enhanced user accessibility. The existing Wallpaper and Displays sections will merge into the General settings category, while Privacy and Security will find themselves coupled with Touch ID and Password, alongside other relevant settings.

Additionally, Siri and Spotlight functionalities will be intertwined with Internet Accounts and Game Center settings, streamlining the user experience.

Beyond organisational tweaks, macOS 15 is rumored to introduce several visual enhancements. Notably, a redesigned Siri menu bar icon is on the cards, opting for a sleek black and white aesthetic to replace the current colorful rendition.

Furthermore, both Calculator and Safari are expected to receive facelifts, with the former embracing a more iOS-like design and the latter adopting a unified menu for page controls.

Excitingly, other speculated macOS 15 updates include the introduction of a Printable Account Recovery Summary option, a revamped iCloud preference pane, and the promise of a “modern” user interface for AirDrop functionality.

Apple enthusiasts can mark their calendars for Monday, June 10, as the company’s WWDC keynote promises to be a showcase of innovation.

Alongside macOS 15, Apple is set to unveil updates for iOS 18, tvOS 18, visionOS 2, and watchOS 11, setting the stage for a new era of seamless integration and user-centric design.
