Arab nations distance themselves from regional conflict

WEB DESK: The King of Jordan and the President of the United Arab Emirates have issued a joint declaration affirming that Arab nations will not participate in any potential military campaign involving the United States and Israel against Iran.

Following a high-level summit in Amman, King Abdullah II and Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan clarified that their territories would not serve as launching pads for operations, nor would their armed forces be drawn into a widening regional war, according to Arab News.

This stance marks a significant diplomatic effort to insulate the Gulf and the Levant from the escalating tensions that have gripped the Middle East since the outbreak of the Gaza conflict.

A unified push for de-escalation

Both leaders underscored that the preservation of national sovereignty and the protection of their populations remain their primary concerns.

By distancing themselves from a direct confrontation with Tehran, Jordan and the UAE are signalling a preference for diplomatic mediation rather than military alignment. The monarchs stressed that the path to long-term security lies in a “just and comprehensive peace,” specifically highlighting the necessity of a two-state solution between Israel and Palestine.

This strategic neutrality is seen by analysts as a calculated move to prevent a total collapse of regional trade and security, ensuring that Arab capitals do not bear the brunt of a conflict they believe can only be resolved through political dialogue.
