Ariel Winter opens up on Luke Benward split after nearly six years together

Ariel Winter is offering a glimpse into where things stand with former partner Luke Benward months after the pair quietly ended their relationship following nearly six years together.

The Modern Family actress addressed the split publicly after reports emerged that she and Benward had gone their separate ways, making it clear that despite the breakup, the bond between them has not disappeared. Instead of heartbreak or tension, Winter described a friendship that has remained firmly intact.

Responding to an Instagram post discussing the split, Winter described the former Disney Channel actor as “still one of my best friends” and praised him as a “great human being”.

She also revealed that the pair continue to co-parent their dogs, adding that ending a romantic relationship does not erase the connection people once shared.

Winter suggested there was still plenty of appreciation between them, explaining that sometimes relationships are not meant to last romantically, even when mutual respect and affection remain. She also called herself “still a big Luke fan”, offering fans a rare look into the couple’s amicable dynamic following the separation.

Winter and Benward first became romantically involved in 2019 after years of friendship, though the actress previously admitted she had not expected their connection to evolve into romance.

In a past interview, Winter described the relationship as one of the biggest blessings in her life, calling Benward her “safe space” and reflecting on how naturally their friendship transformed over time.

The pair remained largely private throughout their relationship but occasionally stepped into the spotlight together, including appearances linked to Don’t Log Off, a thriller they both produced and starred in during the COVID-19 pandemic. The former couple were last publicly seen together in July 2025 at a screening for the project. 

According to reports, Winter and Benward ended their relationship in August 2025 after realising they were better suited as friends. Sources close to the pair have said there remains “tons of love” between them, with the breakup described as respectful and drama-free.

While celebrity breakups often play out publicly, Winter’s message painted a different picture, one centred on friendship, gratitude and moving forward without resentment.
