KARACHI: Armed robbers stole gold and foreign currency worth more than Rs130 million ($470,000) from a man in Karachi’s Bahadurabad area, in what police described as one of the city’s largest robbery incidents this year.
Police said the victim was followed from Shahrah-e-Faisal and attacked as he arrived at his home in Bahadurabad.
The assailants, identified as four armed men riding motorcycles, snatched around 200 tolas of gold and $100,000 in cash before fleeing the scene, police sources said.
The robbery took place despite surveillance coverage in the area through Safe City cameras and monitoring by the Citizens-Police Liaison Committee (CPLC), officials added.
Police have obtained CCTV footage from multiple locations and are gathering evidence to trace the suspects.
A case has been registered at the Bahadurabad police station on the complaint of the victim, Syed Muaz Ali, against four unidentified suspects.
Authorities said raids were under way and arrests were expected soon.
