Army chief reaffirms commitment to eliminate terrorism, extremism

ISLAMABAD: Army Chief Gen Syed Asim Munir has reaffirmed Pakistan Army’s commitment to pursuing Fitna Al-Khwarij till its elimination along with their facilitators, abettors and financiers.
He was interacting with officers and troops during his visit Wana area of South Waziristan on Friday, according to a press release issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
The army chief said these elements will be made to pay the price for their nefarious activities against the state.
During the visit, he received a comprehensive briefing on the prevailing security landscape and ongoing counter-terrorism operations.
Gen Asim Munir commended soldiers’ unwavering resilience and steadfastness in the face of terrorism, reaffirming the nation’s pride in their sacrifices. He emphasized that the martyrs are the pride of Pakistan and their sacrifices will never be forgotten.
He said with the resolute support of the nation, the Pakistan Army, in collaboration with law enforcement agencies, remains steadfast in its determination to eliminate terrorism and extremism in all its forms, ensuring the restoration of lasting peace and stability across the country.
The army chief highlighted that the courage, resilience, and unyielding determination of Pakistan’s armed forces are the cornerstone of the nation’s sovereignty. He described the soldiers of the armed forces and the law enforcement agencies as the true heroes of the nation, whose bravery and selfless dedication inspire the entire country.
Upon his arrival in Wana, the army chief was received by the Corps Commander Peshawar.
In November, addressing traders in Karachi, Gen Asim Munir emphased the importance of prioritising national interests over personal or political motives and said that collective unity was the key to overcoming challenges.
Expressing firm confidence in Pakistan’s stable and prosperous future, he had compared the economic despair of the past year with the present, pointing to improved indicators and expressing optimism for further progress.
“The clouds of despair that loomed a year ago have now cleared,” the army chief had said. He had challenged those who had spread negativity about the economy and predicted a default, questioning their accountability.
The COAS had urged Pakistanis to invest in the country, emphasising that economic recovery depends on internal efforts rather than foreign bailouts. He stressed that only Pakistanis could drive the nation’s prosperity. “Nothing should come before the well-being of the country,” he said, encouraging the business community to play a pivotal role in rebuilding the economy.
