LONDON: Olympic gold medallist Arshad Nadeem has begun training with the javelin in England, setting his sights on the World Athletics Championships.

After missing out on both the World Athletics Silver Tour and the Diamond League, Paris Olympics hero Arshad Nadeem has resumed javelin throwing in England.

Following treatment for a calf muscle injury, the national athlete first started with lightweight training, gradually moving on to running and workouts on the ground.

Speaking on the occasion, Arshad Nadeem said he had undergone a minor calf surgery in Cambridge and was now feeling much better, while his physiotherapist had also expressed satisfaction with his recovery.

The national javelin thrower is determined to deliver his best performance at the World Athletics Championships.

“I am preparing for the World Athletics Championships, which will take place in September,” he said.

“I hope to perform well there. My fitness is good, my rehab has gone well, and I have started throwing again. Please pray that I can perform my best at the championships.”

The World Athletics Championships will be held from September 13 in Tokyo, Japan.

Arshad Nadeem won a silver medal in the previous edition of the tournament.

After undergoing rehabilitation in England, Nadeem has recently started putting weight on his injured leg. However, his physician, Dr Ali Sher Bajwasaid that the injury is both new and serious, and therefore warrants a cautious approach.

In May, Arshad Nadeem won the gold medal in the Men’s Javelin Throw at the Asian Athletics Championships in Gumi, South Korean.

It should be remembered that Arshad Nadeem surprised the world with the longest javelin throw that thrust him to global stardom and salvaged Pakistan’s plunging sports glory with its first individual gold medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
