Arshad Nadeem fails to win medal in Asian Games javelin

National javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem failed to win a medal in the men’s javelin throw final at the Asian Games, while compatriot Yasir Sultan also missed out at Paloma Mizuho Sports Park on Monday.

Yasir Sultan failed to qualify for the final round after his first three attempts, with his best throw measuring 73.50 metres.

Arshad Nadeem, meanwhile, advanced to the final round after finishing among the top eight athletes.

Nadeem, who finished ninth at the Commonwealth Games last month and failed to defend his gold medal, recorded 76.69 metres with his first throw, while his second attempt was ruled a foul.

The reigning Olympic champion produced his best throw of the season with his third attempt, recording 80.29 metres.

However, the effort was not enough to secure a podium finish as Nadeem finished behind India’s Rohit Yadav, who won bronze with an 84.35-metre throw.

India also claimed the silver medal through Yash Vir Singh, who recorded a personal best of 85.72 metres.

Sri Lanka’s Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage clinched the gold medal with a sensational 88.55-metre throw.
