Arshad Nadeem misses out on medal at World Athletics Ultimate Championship

Pakistan’s Olympic champion Arshad Nadeem finished fifth in the men’s javelin throw at the World Athletics Ultimate Championship on Sunday, missing out on a place on the podium.

Nadeem’s best throw of 81.49 metres came on his third attempt and was also his season-best mark. His first two attempts measured 74.42 metres and 79.66 metres.

Only the top four athletes advanced to the final round, bringing Nadeem’s campaign to an end after his first three throws.

Sri Lanka’s Rumesh Pathirage won the title with a throw of 91.09 metres, while Grenada’s Anderson Peters secured second place with 86.18 metres.

Germany’s Julian Weber claimed the bronze medal with a throw of 85.89 metres, while Trinidad and Tobago’s Keshorn Walcott finished fourth with 82.41 metres.

Kenya’s Julius Yego finished sixth with 80.23 metres, followed by Poland’s Dawid Wegner with 77.21 metres and USA’s Curtis Thompson with 75.80 metres.

Nadeem, who won Olympic gold at the Paris 2024 Games, was unable to replicate his medal-winning performance at the championship.

His 81.49-metre effort remains his best throw of the season.
