PESHAWAR: An Anti-Corruption Court in Peshawar on Wednesday extended the interim bail of former speaker of the National Assembly and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Asad Qaiser until November 14.
Asad Qaiser is accused of making illegal appointments in the Swabi education department during the PTI’s rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The court has scheduled October 23 for hearing the pleas of former MNA Bashir Khan and MPA Shafiullah.
Those booked also include former provincial education minister Shahram Khan Tarakai, former adviser to chief minister on industry Abdul Karim, then MPAs, Aqibullah Khan (brother of Asad Qaiser) Rangraiz Khan and officials of the district education department.
According to the Anti-Corruption Establishment, Qaiser and other PTI leaders caused a huge financial loss to the government by hiring people in the education department without merit or due process.
The case was registered after an investigation revealed that data related to the unlawful appointments was deleted from the official records.
Qaiser has denied the allegations and claimed that he is being politically victimized. He has also obtained bail from the Islamabad High Court in the same case.
