Ashley Scoggin lawsuit erupts as ex-Nebraska coach admits relationship in sworn testimony

Ashley Scoggin

A federal lawsuit involving Ashley Scoggin has taken a dramatic turn after a former assistant coach at the University of Nebraska admitted under oath to a sexual relationship with her, according to newly filed court documents.

The admission by ex-coach Chuck Love came during a February 2026 deposition and marks a reversal from earlier court filings in which he denied the allegations.

‘Grooming’ claims at the centre of case

Scoggin first filed suit in February 2024, accusing Love and the university of misconduct, including claims she was groomed into the relationship and later penalised when it was exposed.

She alleges that despite Love’s position of authority, she was the one removed from the team following a 2022 incident during a road trip, even after starting every game that season.

The university has denied wrongdoing, stating that issues of “dishonesty and distrust” within the team justified her dismissal.

Scoggin later transferred to University of Nevada, Las Vegas, where she completed her final collegiate season.

Hotel ‘sting’ and new defendants

In an expanded complaint filed in 2026, Scoggin added two university officials to the lawsuit, claiming failures in due process and violations under Title IX.

The filing outlines an alleged plan by teammates to expose the relationship during a team hotel stay before a game against Penn State in February 2022.

According to the complaint, individuals gained access to Love’s room and recorded video in an effort to confirm suspicions. Accounts differ, with the university previously stating she was found alone, while the complaint alleges she was discovered under the covers.

University response and ongoing case

Scoggin’s legal team argues that the university failed to conduct a fair investigation and instead subjected her to an intense internal inquiry in front of teammates and staff.

She claims she felt pressured to conceal the relationship at the time, citing the power imbalance and fear of being blamed.

The lawsuit seeks damages for emotional distress, loss of her position on the team and alleged violations of her civil rights.

No trial date has been announced.
