Asia Cup 2023: Sri Lanka reduces ticket prices by up to 95%

Sri Lanka Cricket reduced ticket prices for the Asia Cup by up to 95 per cent after the prices were hiked 40-fold and matches were played in near-empty stadiums.

Previously, tickets for ODIs in Sri Lanka cost around $0.78. However, the price was hiked to $27 for the Asia Cup, which is being organized by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

Only 7,000 fans turned up for Sri Lanka’s Super Four clash against Bangladesh on Saturday at the 35,000-capacity R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. This left the hosts facing the embarrassing sight of ranks of empty seats.

To attract fans back to the stadiums, Sri Lanka Cricket announced a 95 per cent reduction in ticket prices for all remaining Super Four matches, including today’s India-Pakistan match.
