ASP Shehrbano Naqvi to get ‘royal’ treatment

ISLAMABAD: Saudi Arabia’s Ambassador to Pakistan Nawaf bin Said Al-Malki has invited Gulberg ASP Syeda Shehrbano Naqvi and her family to a royal visit after she saved a woman from a violent mob in Lahore’s Ichhra Market days earlier.

According to media reports, the envoy lauded the police officer for her brave effort during their meeting at the Saudi embassy.

ASP Naqvi rescued a woman from a violent mob that surrounded her for wearing a dress with Arabic calligraphy on it on February 26.

Ambassador Al-Malki told ASP Naqvi that the Saudi government would bear the expenses of her travel to Saudi with her family as a royal guest.

Viral videos had shown multiple police officials including Dolphin Squad members seen on the Ichra Bazar in Lahore after a mob surrounded a woman for wearing a dress with Arabic calligraphy on it.

ASP Naqvi was then seen reasoning with the crowd after which she escorted the woman out of the shop with an arm around her.

Following her heroic efforts, Chief of Army Staff General Syed Asim Munir lauded her for her devotion to duty and professionalism in diffusing a volatile situation.
