Aston Villa win CAS appeal over FIFA block on registering teenage striker Brian Madjo

WEB DESK: Aston Villa have won their appeal at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), allowing the club to register 17-year-old forward Brian Madjo for official competitions after FIFA blocked his registration.

The Premier League confirmed on Tuesday that Villa are now free to register the teenage striker, who joined the club from French side Metz in January for $13.44 million.

England-born Madjo, who was raised in Luxembourg, made three senior appearances for Luxembourg last year before later representing England at the Under-17 level.

FIFA had prevented Villa from registering the six-foot-four striker under regulations restricting the international transfer of players under the age of 18, arguing that he qualified as a Luxembourg international.

Villa challenged the ruling at CAS, maintaining that Madjo was born in England and holds British citizenship.

“The court’s decision today means that Brian will be registered as an Aston Villa player and eligible to play in official competition matches for the forthcoming season,” the club said in a post on X.

Madjo has impressed during pre-season, scoring four goals, including a brace in Villa’s opening friendly against Walsall.

The ruling clears the teenager to feature for Villa ahead of their UEFA Super Cup clash against European champions Paris Saint-Germain on August 12.
