ATC acquits Maryam Nawaz, Rana Sanaullah in NAB attack case

Maryam Nawaz acquitted

WEB DESK: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Lahore has acquitted Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, Prime Minister’s adviser Rana Sanaullah, Captain (retd) Safdar, and several other PML-N leaders in a case related to an alleged attack on the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) office in 2020.

The ATC announced its reserved verdict accepting the prosecution’s request to drop the case. According to the police report submitted to the court, the allegations of stone-pelting at the NAB office during Maryam Nawaz’s appearance in the Raiwind land case could not be substantiated.

The case had been registered at Chuhung Police Station in 2020 on the complaint of NAB Deputy Director Muhammad Asghar. It accused several PML-N leaders of inciting party workers to violence when they clashed with police outside the NAB office during Maryam’s hearing.

After reviewing all evidence, the court accepted the police’s plea for case dismissal and ordered the proceedings to be closed. The decision marks the end of a politically charged case that had remained pending for five years, with no concrete proof found against the accused leaders.
