WED DESK: Information Minister Attaullah Tarar on Tuesday attended a ceremony marking the 10th anniversary of Turkey’s Democracy and National Unity Day as the chief guest, where he praised the courage and resilience of the Turkish people in defending democracy.
Addressing the gathering, Tarar said that a decade ago, the people of Turkey stood firm against a terrorist organisation that attempted to overthrow the country’s elected government.
He said the determination of the Turkish nation could not be weakened by any force, adding that unity enables nations to overcome challenges and achieve remarkable successes.
The minister paid tribute to the 250 people who lost their lives during the failed coup attempt, acknowledging their sacrifices in protecting Turkey’s democratic institutions.
Highlighting Pakistan-Turkey relations, Tarar said the two countries have always supported each other during difficult times, with their historic friendship being strengthened through generations.
He expressed confidence that bilateral ties between Islamabad and Ankara would continue to expand, saying Turkey’s progress as an economic and defence power has further strengthened its global standing.
Tarar also appreciated Turkey’s consistent support for Pakistan’s stance on the Kashmir issue and reaffirmed Islamabad’s commitment to deepening cooperation with Ankara in the future.
Meanwhile, Turkish Ambassador to Pakistan Irfan Neziroglu said the failed coup attempt targeted state institutions and key installations, including the Presidential Complex.
He said Turkey’s Democracy and National Unity Day serves as a reminder of the nation’s unity, resilience, and determination to protect its democratic values.
