An enthusiastic Australian tennis supporter has captured the attention of Emma Raducanu after the British star called on fans to help identify him following her opening-round win at the Australian Open.
Sydney resident James Bray became an unexpected talking point after his lively courtside support during Raducanu’s 6–4, 6–1 victory over Thailand’s Mananchaya Sawangkaew on Sunday night. Dressed in Australia’s green and gold, Bray stood out for his constant encouragement and booming chants throughout the match.
The fan repeatedly referred to the world No. 29 by the nickname “Raddo,” shouting his support after nearly every point she claimed. His energy quickly spread through the crowd and appeared to lift Raducanu during a tense start to the contest.
After falling behind 3–1 and facing a 15–40 deficit early in the opening set, Raducanu steadied herself as the crowd rallied behind her. With Bray leading the charge, the British No. 1 regained control and powered through the match to secure a straight-sets win.
Raducanu later acknowledged the fan’s influence, prompting a light-hearted appeal for supporters to help track down the mystery cheerleader who had made such an impact on the night. Here is a video shared by an Australian publication:
