Australia wrapped up the Ashes in emphatic fashion after defeating England by 82 runs in the third Test at Adelaide, taking an unassailable 3-0 lead in the five-match series.
Chasing a daunting target of 435 on the final day, England were bowled out for 352 despite a spirited fightback. Zak Crawley led the resistance with a composed 85, while Jamie Smith added 60 and Will Jacks chipped in with 47. However, the target proved too steep as Australia’s bowlers held their nerve at crucial moments.
Mitchell Starc, captain Pat Cummins and Nathan Lyon shared the spoils, claiming three wickets each to dismantle England’s middle and lower order and seal the victory.
Earlier in the match, Australia laid the foundation with strong performances across both innings. The hosts posted 371 in their first innings before adding a further 349 in the second, putting England under sustained pressure throughout the Test. England, by contrast, were restricted to 286 in their first innings, leaving them with a mountain to climb in the run chase.
The win hands Australia a decisive series advantage and confirms yet another dominant home Ashes campaign. With momentum firmly on their side, the hosts will now turn their attention to the fourth Test, scheduled to begin in Melbourne on December 26, while England look to salvage pride in the remaining matches.
