Australia thrash Pakistan in Women’s U19 T20 World Cup warm-up

KUALA LUMPUR: The Pakistan U19 women’s team suffered a devastating defeat to Australia in their second warm up match of the International Cricket Council (ICC) Women’s Under-19 T20 World Cup.

Rain ended the match prematurely and Australia won by 54 runs due to the DLS method.

Australia’s Innings

Kate Pelle and Ines McKeon got the innings started for Australia, scoring an incredible opening partnership of 70 runs off 61 deliveries. Pakistan’s Quratulain Ahsen ended the Aussies opening stand in the tenth over, dismissing McKeon on a delivery that was caught by Ravail Farhan. McKeon scored 26 runs off 25 deliveries, hitting three fours along the way.

Pelle did even better, scoring 41 runs off 38 deliveries, including two fours and two sixes. She was dismissed in the very next over after her compatriot left the field. It was Shahar Bano picking up the wicket this time, with a little help from Haniah Ahmer who made the catch.

Australia’s Grace Lyons and Eleanor Larosa continues to build the score, making a partnership of 65 runs off 57 deliveries. Larosa made 26 of those, while Lyons made 39.

Australia ended with a total of 137, only losing two wickets in the process.

Pakistan’s Innings  

Pakistan struggled with the bat from the get go, losing their first wicket in the sixth over. Skipper Komal Khan was caught out by Pelle on a delivery from Tegan Williamson. Komal managed to make 14 runs off 18 deliveries before leaving the field.

Fatima Khan was dismissed next in the seventh over after only making six runs off the 15 deliveries she faced. It was Williamson taking her second wicket as Lily Bassingthwaighte took the catch. Zoofishan Ayyaz replaced Fatima and was sent off immediately for a golden duck. It was Williamson’s third, and this time she needed no help, as her delivery struck Ayyaz on the pad, dismissing her for an lbw.

In the ninth over, Ravail Farhan suffered a similar fate, as she was dismissed for an lbw on a delivery from Juliette Morton. A few balls later, Minahil Ahmed was stumped by Pelle. It was an unfortunate end to what looked to be a promising innings, as Minahil hit a six on the second ball she faced.

In the very next over, Areesha Ansari was bowled by Maggie Clark. She only made three runs off the ten deliveries she faced. Maham Anees made the same total before being caught out by Lyons in the 14th over, giving Morton her third wicket of the game.

The game ended shortly after due to rain and Australia won by 54 runs due to the DLS method.
