Aydan Nix opens up about her bond with Gigi and Bella Hadid

Aydan Nix has shared new insight into her relationship with Gigi Hadid and Bella Hadid, months after learning they share the same biological father.

In an essay published by The Cut on December 30, the 23-year-old reflected on what it has been like building a connection with the Hadid family after discovering through a genetic test in 2023 that Mohamed Hadid is her father. Gigi and Bella publicly confirmed the news earlier this year.

Nix described her half-sisters and extended family as welcoming and supportive, writing that they “made space” for her during a period of major personal adjustment. She emphasised that their warmth was offered without expectation, noting that the bond has developed gradually rather than instantly.

The essay also details how her relationship with the Hadids helped her reconnect with their shared Palestinian heritage. Nix wrote that Alana Hadid shared reading material with her, while Anwar Hadid introduced her to films exploring Palestinian identity. She added that Gigi took her for her first Palestinian meal and taught her the names of different dishes.

Despite joining one of fashion’s most recognisable families, Nix was clear that her life has remained largely unchanged. Raised in Florida, she continues to live in a small East Village apartment and works as a freelance wardrobe stylist, often behind the scenes at fashion events. She noted that even during high-profile moments such as the Met Gala, she is working long hours rather than attending as a guest.

Nix also reflected on the emotional complexity of redefining family later in life. She wrote about processing the loss of the father who raised her, as well as rethinking her understanding of sibling relationships after learning that the sister she grew up with does not share her DNA. While the discovery reshaped her sense of identity, she stressed that it did not diminish the family bonds she already had.

“Despite a couple of extra eyes on me, my life is still my own,” she wrote, adding that she is focused on living for herself rather than fulfilling expectations tied to her famous last name.
