In a recent pre-match press conference preceding the highly anticipated Super 4 clash between arch-rivals Pakistan and India, Shubman Gill, India’s top-order batsman, openly conveyed his deep admiration and respect for Pakistan’s skipper, Babar Azam.
Gill’s comments hold significant weight, given the longstanding, intense rivalry that has characterised India-Pakistan cricket encounters over the years.
He said, “If any player is doing well in any team, everyone looks up to them to know what is the reason behind them doing great. To know what their specialty is. We also look up to all these factors, and definitely, Babar Azam is a world-class player; we watch and admire him.”
Furthermore, Gill shared his insights into the exceptional talents possessed by Pakistan’s fast bowlers, Shaheen Shah Afridi and Naseem Shah, underscoring the distinct challenges they present to opposing batsmen.
“They are different kind of bowlers. Every bowler has their own area of expertise. I think both of them have separate expertise. Shaheen, as we have seen, mostly swings the ball. Naseem uses pace, and if he is getting help from the wicket, he sets the area accordingly. Both of them are different kind of bowlers who impart different challenges in different conditions and different situations on the opposition,” Gill elaborated.

Gill, celebrated for his explosive batting prowess, encountered significant difficulties during the Pakistan-India match in Pallekele last Saturday. Eventually, Haris Rauf managed to dismiss Gill, who could only muster 10 runs off 32 deliveries.
However, the game ended in a washout due to adverse weather conditions, without yielding any conclusive results. Cricket fans can look forward to another thrilling clash between these arch-rivals in the upcoming Super Four match of the 2023 Asia Cup, set to take place in Colombo this Sunday.
