Babar Azam surpasses Rohit Sharma

LAHORE: Former Pakistan captain Babar Azam has achieved another major milestone, breaking the world record for the most runs in T20 Internationals previously held by India’s former captain Rohit Sharma.

Babar reached the landmark during the second T20 against South Africa in Lahore, surpassing Rohit Sharma’s tally after scoring his ninth run of the innings.

Rohit Sharma had scored a total of 4,231 runs in 159 T20 Internationals, while Babar needed just nine runs to overtake him and become the leading run-scorer in T20I cricket.

Pakistan produced a commanding performance in the second T20 International, defeating South Africa by nine wickets to level the three-match series 1-1.

Playing at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium, Pakistan comfortably chased down the modest target of 111 runs in the 14th over for the loss of just one wicket. Opener Saim Ayub starred with an unbeaten knock of 71 runs, while Babar Azam remained not out on 11.

Opener Sahibzada Farhan scored 28 runs off 23 balls before being dismissed by Corbin Bosch.

Earlier, Pakistan’s bowlers had dismantled the South African batting lineup, bowling them out for just 110 runs in 19.2 overs. Salman Mirza troubled the top order early, while Faheem Ashraf cleaned up the lower order with disciplined bowling.
