Security measures heightened following Balochistan bomb blasts

WEB DESK: In the wake of the devastating bomb blasts in Balochistan’s Pishin and Qila Saifullah, Inspector General (IG) Sindh, Rafat Mukhtar, has issued stringent directives to elevate security across the province.

IG Sindh, Rafat Mukhtar, instructed all district police officers to bolster their collaborations with intelligence personnel. Emphasising the need for heightened vigilance, Mukhtar directed officers to ensure the safety of voters, candidates, polling staff, and materials during the upcoming general elections.

“Police patrolling and snap-checking should be intensified at the district level,” stated IG Rafat Mukhtar, underscoring the urgency of the situation. The move comes in response to the tragic events that unfolded on Wednesday, where at least 28 lives were lost and over 40 individuals sustained injuries in back-to-back blasts in Pishin and Qila Saifullah.

The first blast occurred in Pishin’s Khanozai union council, situated approximately an hour away from Quetta, just after noon. Reports indicate that the incident took place outside the election office of independent candidate Asfandyar Kakar, who is contesting polls from PB-47 (Pishin 1).

These distressing incidents come on the eve of the general elections scheduled to take place in the country. Pakistan has recently witnessed a surge in terrorist activities, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, amplifying concerns over the overall security situation.

IG Rafat Mukhtar’s proactive measures aim to address these concerns and reinforce security measures to prevent further untoward incidents in the region. The collaborative efforts between police and intelligence agencies, coupled with increased patrolling and snap-checking, reflect a determined response to safeguard the democratic process and the lives of citizens.
