QUETTA: Balochistan Caretaker Chief Minister’s Adviser Umair Muhammad Hasani has extended his heartfelt apologies to the doctors and other staff of the trauma center of the Civil Hospital after his gunmen assaulted them earlier in the day.

Gunmen of Hasani and former MPA Aman Ullah Notezai attacked the staff and doctors at the Quetta’s trauma centre on Tuesday.

The CCTV footage circulating online showed both Hasani and Notezai, along with approximately two dozen armed men and associates, entering the trauma centre facility.

In his statement, the provincial adviser acknowledged that the incident was regrettable and occurred based on a misunderstanding. He affirmed that as a responsible government representative, it is his duty to serve the public, particularly in offering support and compassionate care to patients dealing with various illnesses.

The provincial adviser has expressed confidence in the dedicated staff of the trauma center, emphasizing that in the future, they will actively play their part in preventing such unpleasant incidents and ensure their role in upholding their ethical responsibilities.

Earlier, Dr Arif, a spokesperson for the Young Doctors Association (YDA), told HUM News English that a confrontation ensued when Hasani was stopped by security at the entrance to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). He said that Hasani’s bodyguard assaulted security personnel and other staff members.

The incident had generated swift and strong criticism on various social media platforms. Among those voicing their disapproval was Syed Ali Shah, who tweeted, “This is highly condemnable. These armed advisers should be held accountable, although the prospects seem dim due to their apparent impunity.”

The YDA had denounced the assault and demanded severe punitive actions against the adviser.  The Pakistan Medical Association Balochistan had also announced its plans to organise a protest in response to the incident.
