HYDERABAD: Bandits operating in the Kacha area have abducted three ‘spiritual’ leaders who were en route to collect donations from their followers.

The incident happened despite the presence of Sindh Police Inspector General Ghulam Nabi Memon in Sukkur to assess the ongoing operation and the law and order in the region.

The kidnapping took place in the Jhali Kalwari area of Kacha, where three Pirs from Haider Shah village in the Bagarji area of Sukkur — Janib Shah, Javed Shah, and Zahoor Shah — had gone to gather annual donations following the wheat harvest.

According to family members, the bandits kidnapped all three individuals and are reportedly demanding ransom for their release.

The Sindh IG will visit the Kacha area to review ongoing operations against bandits and assess security arrangements.

The challenging terrain of the Kacha area, located along the Indus River, presents significant security hurdles and has long been associated with criminal activities including high-profile kidnappings and tribal disputes. The area’s inaccessibility during floods and fertile land when dry make it an attractive hideout for criminals seeking to evade law enforcement.

Security operations like the ‘Kacha Operation’ have aimed to eliminate terrorist safe havens and restore peace, yet the region continues to pose risks with police fatalities and injuries reported. The security situation in Kacha is complicated by involvement from various tribal factions, necessitating a sustained and coordinated approach to law enforcement and peace-building efforts.
