WEB DESK: Dhaka authorities have revealed a plot by former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to assassinate political leaders in Bangladesh, according to media reports. The disclosure comes after a violent attack on a political worker, prompting the Bangladeshi government to summon the Indian ambassador and demand the extradition of suspects allegedly involved in the attack on Osman Hadi.
Osman Hadi, a worker of the ruling Awami League, was seriously injured in a shooting incident in Dhaka. Officials say he also received threats via phone calls traced to India. Bangladeshi authorities have accused Sheikh Hasina of orchestrating terrorist-style actions to influence upcoming elections, asserting that India is allegedly allowing the fugitive former prime minister to interfere in the electoral process.
Sheikh Hasina, who fled to India after leaving office, was sentenced to death in absentia in a case related to crimes against humanity. Bangladeshi officials say her actions continue to destabilise the political environment, raising concerns about the safety of opposition leaders and the integrity of upcoming elections.
The government’s demand for extradition and the diplomatic engagement with India highlight escalating tensions between the two countries over the former prime minister’s activities. Authorities in Dhaka have vowed to pursue all legal and administrative measures to ensure the security of political leaders and maintain order ahead of the elections.
This development has drawn international attention as Bangladesh confronts a politically sensitive security threat involving a high-profile former leader accused of plotting violence against her country’s political establishment.
