DHAKA: Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has expressed that due to security concerns, their team won’t travel to India to play in the upcoming T20I World Cup, kicking off from February 14 this year.
The announcement came from the BCC’s sports adviser, Asif Nazru,l who said that the reason behind this refusal is security issues.
In his media talk, the sports advisor Nazrul said that Bangladesh’s concerns are genuine, which the International Cricket Council has failed to address.
Earlier, a meeting held between Bangladeshi government officials and the national cricket team concluded that the security of Bangladeshi players remains a top priority.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has also hinted at a possible boycott of the two-country-hosted World Cup.
It may be recalled that the BCB was warned on Wednesday during an ICC board meeting related to the Bangladesh cricketing body’s participation in the global tournament. The meeting had concluded that they would be excluded from the World Cup if they did not travel to India.
As per the schedule shared by the International Cricket Council, Bangladesh has been placed in Group C alongside England, Italy, the West Indies, and Nepal. The team has been scheduled to play its first match on February 7 against the West Indies in Kolkata.
