Barcelona thrash Mallorca 3-0 to strengthen grip on LaLiga summit

BARCELONA: Barcelona delivered a dominant performance at home on Saturday, defeating Mallorca 3-0 to extend their lead at the top of the LaLiga table.

Hansi Flick’s side controlled proceedings from the outset, dictating possession and tempo. Marcus Rashford came close early on, firing narrowly wide, before playing a crucial role in the opener. Dani Olmo reacted quickest to Rashford’s blocked effort, directing the ball into the path of Robert Lewandowski, who calmly slotted home in the 29th minute.

Barcelona maintained the pressure after the break. Marc Casado struck the post as the hosts continued to press, and their persistence paid off in the 61st minute. Eighteen-year-old Lamine Yamal produced a stunning long-range strike to double the advantage, marking his fifth goal in as many matches across all competitions.

Substitute Marc Bernal, also 18, added the third with an impressive solo run and composed low finish, sealing a comprehensive victory for the Catalan side.

With the win, Barcelona move to 58 points, four clear of second-placed Real Madrid, who are set to face Valencia on Sunday.
