MUNICH: Bayern Munich turned on the style with three goals in seven minutes to hammer Union Berlin 4-0 in the Bundesliga on Saturday, stretching their lead at the top to 12 points.
Fresh off a dominant Champions League run, Bayern moved to 70 points, well clear of Borussia Dortmund, and edged closer to their all-time scoring record, now sitting on 97 league goals this season.
Union held firm for half an hour, even seeing teenager Lennart Karl hit the post, but Bayern broke through just before the break when Michael Olise curled home in the 42nd minute. Serge Gnabry doubled the lead in stoppage time to take control.
Harry Kane made it three early in the second half with his 31st league goal of the season, continuing his chase of Robert Lewandowski’s single-season record. Gnabry then struck again in the 67th minute as Bayern ran riot.
Olise hit the woodwork late on, while Kane spurned another chance, but the damage was long done in a one-sided contest that underlined Bayern’s title charge.
