MUMBAI: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a massive cash reward for the national team after their victory in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, offering an amount three times higher than the prize money awarded by the International Cricket Council (ICC).
According to the ICC website, the Indian team will receive INR 580 million (equivalent to PKR 1.88 billion) from BCCI for their triumphant campaign. This amount will be distributed among the players, coaching staff, and selection committee members who contributed to the victory.
Led by Rohit Sharma, India remained unbeaten throughout the tournament and secured the title for the third time after defeating New Zealand in the final.
BCCI President Roger Binny praised the team’s success, saying, “Winning back-to-back ICC titles is a remarkable achievement. This reward is a recognition of the team’s hard work and outstanding performance on the global stage. It also honours the contributions of those working behind the scenes.”
He further highlighted that this was India’s second ICC trophy of 2025, following their triumph in the ICC Under-19 Women’s World Cup, underscoring the strength of India’s cricketing structure.
India’s victory in the Champions Trophy, hosted by Pakistan, had already earned them $2.24 million (INR 193.5 million) from the ICC, while runners-up New Zealand received half of that amount, approximately PKR 310 million.
The final, held on March 9, saw India defeat New Zealand by four wickets to lift the prestigious trophy once again.
Meanwhile, Advisor to Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Amir Mir claimed that Pakistan’s profits from hosting ICC Champions Trophy 2025 amounted to Rs 3 billion.
Addressing a press conference, he said, “Propaganda is being spread regarding the Champions Trophy with Indian media telling black lies that Pakistan suffered loss by hosting the tournament.
“The ICC bears all the expenses for the ICC event,” Mir said, adding that the ICC’s budget for the Champions Trophy was $70 million, of which $10 million was allocated for Pakistan.
