Benazir Income Support programme initiates fund distribution

SARGODHA: The Benazir Income Support programme (BISP) centre in Sargodha district announced the release of its quarterly tranche for September to December 2024 for registered beneficiaries.
The Deputy Director of the concerned department informed the media that almost 73,000 registered women across the district will receive a payment of Rs10,500 each.

Beneficiaries were required to visit their nearest camp site to collect the funds.
A total of 14 camp sites were setup in Sargodha district for the BISP payments, including five in Sargodfha city, two in Sillanwali, two in Sahiwal, two in Kotmomin, one in Bhera, one in Shah Pur and a single one in Bhulwal.
The BISP and the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) collaborated to created a simplified payment procedure for the beneficiaries.
The modalities for the initiative were discussed in a meeting on Friday between Senator Rubina Khalid, Chairperson of BISP and Governor of the SBP Jameel Ahmed.
The meeting focused on establishing a new, improved and transparent system for disbursing stipends to the deserving women under the Benazir Income Support programme.

The SBP governor stated that a simplified procedure for stipend payments will be developed through a mutual consultation between the BISP and the Statement. This will ensure that the beneficiary would receive their payments in a respectful and transparent manner.
Meanwhile, Three people, including a husband and wife, were arrested for their involvement in fraudulent activities at the Benazir Income Support Programme centre.
The BISP sources reported that a retailers was observed distributing funds primarily to women recommended by his wife along with an accomplice.
The distribution overlooked many other deserving women who sought assistance at the centre.
Following multiple complaints, Assistant Director Zafar visited the centre and confirmed the validity of the complaints.

Local law enforcement then arrested the suspects and registered a case against them. Investigation is currently ongoing.
