WEB DESK: Prominent writer and political commentator Fatima Bhutto has voiced strong criticism over the treatment of incarcerated former Prime Minister Imran Khan while in custody. In a tweet, Bhutto stated that Khan “served his country” and emphasised that “he cannot be hidden in darkness,” urging authorities to ensure humane treatment.

She described the situation as transcending politics, stressing that the issue is one of “basic human decency.” Bhutto highlighted that no prisoner, regardless of political affiliation, should be subjected to inhumane conditions.

Her statement comes amid growing concerns about Khan’s prolonged detention and reports of solitary confinement, which have drawn attention from both domestic and international observers. Bhutto’s comments add to a chorus of voices calling for transparency and adherence to human rights standards in the treatment of political figures and detainees in Pakistan.

Earlier today, Imran Khan’s son, Kasim Khan renewed concerns over his father’s treatment in custody, noting he has spent 845 days under arrest and six weeks in solitary confinement. In a social media post, he alleged that Imran is being kept in a “death cell” without transparency, while family visits, including those approved by courts, have been blocked. With no calls, meetings or proof of life, Kasim said he and his brother have had no contact with their father. He called the isolation deliberate and urged the international community and rights groups to demand access and press for Imran’s release.
