Billie Eilish’s new album strategy: No singles before release


WEB DESK: Acclaimed singer Billie Eilish is taking a different approach to her upcoming album release by opting not to drop any singles beforehand.

In a recent interview with “Rolling Stone” magazine, Eilish explained her decision, stating she disliked releasing singles independently of an album. She said she viewed music albums as a cohesive entity and preferred releasing an album without per-releasing singles. She called such a practice akin to a family where each song plays a role in shaping the overall narrative.

Eilish’s eagerly awaited third studio album, “Hit Me Hard and Soft,” is set to debut on May 17.

In an announcement on image sharing social media platform Instagram, Eilish made it clear that she wants to deliver the entire album to her fans at once, foregoing the traditional single releases.

The unorthodox practice sparked curiosity among fans. Eilish’s decision is vastly different than the conventional strategy of building up curiosity by teasing singles from am upcoming album

The 22-year-old siger primarily sings in the pop and pop-rock genres, though often experimenting with diverse musical styles. For instance, her single “Happier than Ever” from her previous album showcased a 60s-inspired sound.

Eilish made her debut in 2015 as a young teenager. She gained global mainstream attention right off the bat with single “Ocean Eyes” peaking on several music charts.

Similarity, “Don’t Smile at Me” released in 2017 also achieved commercial success, topping the music charts in several countries.

It wouldn’t be until 2019 when Eilish would release her first album. “When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?” peaked at number one on the “US Billboard 200” chart.

Her song “No Time to Die” was the theme song for the James Bond film of the same name. It won the Academy Award (Oscars) for “Best Original Song” in 2022.

Billie Eilish has earned numerous accolades including Grammy Awards and even Guinness World Records multiple times.
