Billy Porter is not happy with Harry Styles Vogue cover

CALIFORNIA: Billy Porter is not holding back when it comes to expressing his displeasure with Harry Styles’ historic Vogue cover.

In an interview with The Telegraph, the actor and singer claimed that Styles was chosen for the groundbreaking solo cover of Vogue because of his “white and straight” identity. Styles graced the pages of Vogue’s December 2020 issue, showcasing bold and boundary-pushing fashion choices.

Porter, known for his gender-fluid fashion statements, didn’t mince words, stating, “Non-binary blah blah blah blah. No. It doesn’t feel good to me.”

Despite Styles not openly labeling his sexuality, Porter’s criticism was aimed more at the industry “gatekeepers,” including Vogue’s editor-in-chief Anna Wintour. Porter recounted a meeting with Anna in which she sought his input on gender-fluid fashion. He regretted not using that moment to urge Vogue to amplify the voices leading this new fashion movement.

This is not the first time Porter has spoken out against Styles’ Vogue cover. He previously voiced his concerns in a 2021 interview, stating, “I created the conversation [about gender-fluid fashion] and yet Vogue still put Harry Styles, a straight white man, in a dress on their cover for the first time.”

Porter clarified later that his criticism was aimed at the broader industry and the power dynamics at play, rather than Styles himself.
