BISP gets new chairman

ISLAMABAD (APP): President Dr Arif Alvi on Friday gave approval to the appointment of Dr Amjad Saqib as the new chairman of the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP).

The appointment was made in accordance with Section 5(3) of the Benazir Income Support Programme Act 2010, the President’s Office said.

He replaced Shazia Marri, who was the previous chairperson of the BISP.

Shazia Marri was appointed as the chairperson of the BISP in April 2022 by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. She served in this position for about 17 months until September 2023.

During her tenure, she restored the name of BISP, which was changed by the previous government, and renamed the other programmes under the BISP as Benazir Kafalat Programme, Benazir Nashonuma Programme and Benazir Education Stipend Programme.
