BISP support to be conditional to school enrollment: PM

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday directed the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) authorities to ask the beneficiaries to enroll their children in schools in order to avail the programme to foster and promote literacy in the country.

He was addressing launching ceremony of BISP Social Protection Account, a facility that would allow beneficiaries access to banking services as regular customers to receive cash stipends, thus eliminating the role of retail agents.

Expressing hope for country to stand on its feet utilizing its resources, the premier said: “We will not be promoting the army of beggars but promoting the army of doers who will build Pakistan with their mental and physical capacity”.

Recalling the devastation caused by floods last year, Shehbaz highlighted the role of BISP in disbursing Rs70b in a transparent manner to the victims across provinces

He also thanked the friendly countries, local and international donor agencies for sending aid for the flood-affected people.

On the International Monetary Fund (IMF) programme, Shehbaz said the Fund’s assistance would provide breathing space for ushering in the much-needed reforms to restructure economy.
