Blake Garrett: what we know so far about the ‘How to Eat Fried Worms’ actor’s death

Blake Garrett, best known for his role in How to Eat Fried Worms, has died at the age of 33, according to US media reports. An official cause of death has not yet been confirmed.

Garrett’s mother, Carol Garrett, told TMZ that her son died on Sunday and that the family is awaiting autopsy results from the medical examiner.

According to his family, Garrett had visited an emergency room in Oklahoma last week after experiencing severe pain and was later diagnosed with shingles, a viral infection. His mother said he may have self-medicated to manage the pain and believes his death could have been a tragic accident. No medical findings have been released to confirm this.

Garrett had been living in Tulsa, Oklahoma, in recent years and had turned his life around after becoming sober, his family said.

Born in Austin, Texas, Garrett began acting at a young age and appeared in local stage productions including Aladdin and His Magical Lamp and Peanuts: A Charlie Brown Tribute. At the age of 10, he toured internationally with Barney’s Colorful World.

His breakout role came in 2006 when he played Plug in How to Eat Fried Worms, earning a Young Artist Award for Best Young Ensemble Cast.

Further details surrounding Garrett’s death are expected once the coroner’s report is released.
