WEB DESK: An explosion shook the vicinity of Miryan Police Station in Bannu district on Monday morning, claiming lives of two individuals, including a young child, and injuring at least 20 others.
According to Express Tribune, police officials reported that the blast was caused by an improvised explosive device (IED) concealed in a Zaranj rickshaw. The vehicle, laden with explosives, had been parked directly in front of a shop outside the main entrance of the police station.
A substantial police presence quickly secured the area, cordoning off the site to ensure safety and begin a comprehensive investigation. Authorities confirmed that no police personnel present at the scene were harmed in the explosion. Following the incident, search operations were launched to collect evidence and pursue leads.
Bannu Deputy Inspector General of Police, Sajjad Khan, stated that the IED had been planted in the rickshaw near commercial shops adjacent to the police station, emphasising that all on-duty officers remained unharmed.
Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Governor Faisal Karim Kundi strongly condemned the attack. In a statement issued from the governor’s house, he expressed deep sorrow over the loss of life and offered prayers for the departed, seeking divine strength for their grieving families.
The governor extended heartfelt condolences to the victims’ relatives and stressed the provincial administration stands firmly with those affected. He denounced the perpetrators, describing terrorists as enemies of humanity and threats to the peace and stability of the region.
Separate incident disrupts connectivity in Tank
In a related incident late on Monday night, militants demolished a bridge along the Tank–Wana main road at the Kot Hakim site using explosives. The destruction has disrupted local transportation and movement in the area.
Authorities continue to investigate both attacks amid growing security concerns in the region.
