‘Bloodborne’ movie confirmed: as Sony goes all-in on brutal R-rated adaptation

Bloodborne

Sony has officially confirmed an R-rated animated adaptation of Bloodborne, leaning heavily into the game’s dark, violent world in what could become one of its boldest video game films yet.

The announcement was made during CinemaCon, where Sony Pictures executive Sanford Panitch said the film would stay “very true” to the game’s brutal and gothic tone.

Sony doubles down on Bloodborne horror

Developed by FromSoftware, Bloodborne follows a lone traveller navigating a twisted, nightmarish city filled with monstrous creatures.

The R-rating signals that the adaptation will not hold back, embracing the gore and horror elements that defined the original game and earned it a cult following.

The project comes as Sony expands its slate of video game adaptations amid the genre’s box office boom.

Recent successes like The Super Mario Bros. Movie and A Minecraft Movie have proven the commercial potential of gaming franchises on the big screen.

Sony is also developing adaptations of Helldivers, directed by Justin Lin and starring Jason Momoa, as well as a live-action The Legend of Zelda film from Wes Ball.

Fan-favourite creator joins project

The film will be co-produced by PlayStation Productions, Lyrical Animation and YouTuber Jacksepticeye, who has built a massive following through his long-running connection to the game.

Lyrical Media is co-financing the project alongside Sony Pictures.

While key details such as casting and release date remain under wraps, the announcement is already generating buzz among fans eager to see Bloodborne brought to life on screen.
